Reminders

These were listed in last week's call. We are working hard to ensure they are safe and learning. Please help us with the following:

• If your child has COVID or has been a close contact, it is imperative you call Nurse Stone. She can provide guidance as to when your child can return and next steps.
• If you have questions about what is going on in a classroom, please reach out to the teacher directly first. If there is a problem that needs a resolution and the teacher isn't able to resolve it, please contact administration (our information is above).
• Remember that our doors will open at 8:30. As the weather continues to be frigid, please ensure your children do not come too early to freeze outside. 
• Extended Day Programs will begin shortly. Your child's teacher will be reaching out. 

Revisiting the Use of Plastic Barriers in Our Classrooms

The time has probably come to take down the plastic barriers that are on students' desks.  Certainly, when less was known about the spread of coronavirus these dividers seemed like a plausible solution.  Now that we know there is not enough scientific data to support their effectiveness, it's probably time to reevaluate.  Many of our students are having difficulty seeing through the hazy and worn film causing obstruction to the learning.  We would like to have the students take them down so that they can see the smartboards more clearly.  Every student is masked which is helping us to mitigate the spread of the virus.  If you would like for the barrier to remain on your child's desk, please reach out to their teacher.  Thank you for your understanding.

"As noted below, "In accordance with the applicable State statutes, regulations and JCBOE Policy Nos. 5111 & 5118, the JCBOE is vested with the authority to determine that a student is not entitled to a free education in the District and, consequently, to remove the student from any of the District’s schools,

including the District’s Early Childhood child care providers.

In addition, please be advised further that a determination that a student was not eligible to a free education from the Jersey City Public Schools may result in a parent being assessed tuition for the entire period of time the student was ineligible. This assessment may span multiple school years."

End of Marking Period 2 is Wednesday, February 2

Please review your child's grades on Infinite Campus (link is above). Report cards will not be printed and our conferences will be virtual on February 16 from 1:30p to 3:00p. Teachers will provide information about appointments next week. Please note that if you need longer than 5 minutes, you should schedule an appointment with the teacher outside of the conference time.

NO CASPER, YMCA or Boys & Girls Club Wednesday, February 2 and Wednesday, February 16

Due to the Half Day on Wednesday, February 2 and Wednesday, February 16, there are no after-school activities or after-care programs that day. We dismiss at 12:45. Please be prompt in picking up your children so our staff can participate in professional development (February 2) and parent conferences (February 16).

REMINDER: Voluntary Student COVID Testing

We had a successful testing for a majority of students this past Wednesday. Those who had a hard time were notified by robocall and their teacher.

The last day to sign up for the 2/2 testing is Monday, January 31st in order to facilitate an orderly testing for all students. Any signups completed after 1/31 will be added for the testing on Wednesday, February 9th. Once you have signed up, you don't need to sign up again.

The testing is for any student regardless of vaccination status. The district did not make any distinction at this time. If there is a concern for a need, we will adjust as any decisions are made. 

As for students who recently tested positive for COVID-19, students who have had COVID-19 within the last 90 days are requested not to test until they have passed the 90-day window. However, parents can still consent to testing so that way when they are outside of that window, they can test. The consent form is a one-time consent form. Anyone who wants their child/children to test must have parental consent on file.
